Remanufacturing: A Shift to New

As published in the October 12, 2015 issue of Transport Topics

"The demand for remanufactured parts has held relatively steady through the years. Factory reman'd products make up about 15% of all replacement parts for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and trailers, according to marketing analysis from MacKay & Co., which is based in Lombard, Illinois. That share is down just 1% from 2010, principally because some buyers have shifted to new replacement-type components, said David Fulghum, vice president of research, data and analytics.

Excluding replacement items such as belts, hoses and bulbs that must be bought new, factory remanufactured parts account for 24% of the dollar value of aftermarket parts for those vehicles."
