DataMac® Truck & Bus Mexico report and database are complete and available for purchase.

MacKay & Company has just completed our 2015 DataMac® study of truck, trailer and commercial bus parts & service aftermarket practices among operators of these vehicles in Mexico.  The study, DataMac Truck & Bus Mexico 2015, is our fifth comprehensive study since 1995. The aftermarket for replacement parts on medium and heavy duty trucks, buses and trailers in 2015 is just over $3 billion dollars, up 4% from 2011. This aftermarket parts demand is driven by over 500,000 vehicles operating in Mexico. As part of this study, MacKay & Company profiles replacement demand for over 300 components including annual demand, point of service, point of final sale, type of replacement component and segmentation by several vocations.

We conducted an internal detailed analysis of vehicle retail sales while our research partner in Mexico completed nearly 400 interviews with owners and maintainers of trucks and buses as well as parts and service distribution points.

Who Will Attend?

It is a jam-packed day filled with nothing but aftermarket topics. Based on statistics from HDAD'15 attendees, 80% of the audience for HDAD'16 will be VP to CEO level executives from supplier companies. HDAD'16 is an initiative of HDMA, in partnership with MacKay & Company and is held the Monday prior to the opening of the annual 4-day Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW ‘16), which begins with an all-industry reception the evening of January 25, at The Mirage in Las Vegas, NV.

Economic UpdateLed by another solid gain in Truckable Consumption, and aided by advances in four of the other five of its major components, Truckable Economic Activity (TEA®) moved ahead again in the third quarter of 2015.  The size and composition of the gains suggest that the trucking economy has largely recovered from the problems created by the bad winter weather and the labor dispute at the West Coast ports.  The pace of Total TEA growth slowed slightly in the third quarter, largely as a result of the shift in the growth rate of Truckable Exports from a small plus to a small minus.  Consumption, Imports, and Government turned in performances in the third quarter that pretty much replicated what they had done in the second quarter.  Truckable Investment, meanwhile, was a touch slower.

Next Big Release: Service Study

A comprehensive study of the Medium and Heavy Duty Truck and Trailer Service Market will be released in January 2015.

There are many varying market conditions that are currently impacting the service market: the aging truck universe, the slow paced economy and its recovery and the rise in the durability and reliability of components. Back in 2011, the total medium and heavy duty truck and trailer service market grew to 495 million hours on an annual basis. We have revisited the service market in 2015 delving into an in-depth analysis of the truck service market.

  • With the changing market conditions, how has the service market been impacted?
  • Where is the service being performed?
  • How large is the service opportunity?
  • How well is the service work being performed?

Through our 2015 Study of the Medium and Heavy Duty Truck and Trailer Service we are developing a current – and more comprehensive – understanding of the challenges and opportunities in both the vehicle and component service market.
