Our 2024 study has been released!
If you are looking to better understand fleets’ online purchasing patterns, this is the report for you. We are diving into:
How much is purchased through online channels?
What parts are most frequently purchased online?
Why are fleets not purchasing parts online?
What sites are used to research parts?
Potential use of guest account, no login or registration required?
What website attributes are most important?
AND MORE!
Our 2024 study marks the 4th extensive review of the e-commerce purchasing patterns for medium and heavy duty fleets. In 2021, 11% of parts purchasing was conducted through an online channel. When we began our research, we were interested to learn if fleets’ online purchasing had grown over the past several years as predicted or were fleets charting a different course? We now know! We knew that convenience had been a driving force behind the use of e-commerce platforms; had this continued or was more in-person contact required? We now know!
We would be happy to further this conversation and share more details about our latest study. A review of the study findings is included with the report, allowing subscribers to hear first hand the results and ask questions. For more information, please contact John Blodgett or Travis Kokenes or call 630-916-6110.
Proprietary research
Fun fact! Over 50% of our business is proprietary research! Each year, we complete numerous projects centered on the specific research needs of our clients. Be it customer input from an unbiased third party, examining fleets’ interest in a new product, sizing a potential market, exploring new technology or brand recognition, we have extensive experience in tailoring our skill set, knowledge and tools to meet your research needs.
Our experienced team can help you with your research and data needs. Please reach out to John Blodgett for more information.

Aftermarket parts demand climbs mainly due to price
Our 2024 DataMac® Agricultural Equipment Operator report was released earlier this month. In total, this service examines 600+ components across multiple equipment types. Each year, we rotate the components being surveyed and this year’s report details 80 components. 807 farmers and farm maintainers provided data based upon their usage and maintenance of tractors, combines, harvesting equipment, mowers, balers, planters, sprayers, plows, cotton pickers and strippers, and forage harvesters.
Aftermarket demand for parts and components in 2024 climbs 3.0% compared to 2023. This increase was driven primarily by annual price inflation. We forecast the 2025 aftermarket parts demand to increase another 2.0%.

Mexico HD Aftermarket Pulse
Based on MacKay & Company’s last detailed study of the Mexico medium and heavy duty aftermarket for trucks and trailers, we estimate the total market to be nearly $6.6 billion dollars (U.S. dollars). For more than 30 years, MacKay & Company has completed detailed studies of the parts aftermarket in Mexico (DataMac Truck & Bus Mexico). These studies are based on hundreds of surveys completed with fleets and parts distributors about their business.
While the DataMac Truck & Bus Mexico Reports are very detailed (down to the component level), it is currently updated every 4-5 years. This frequency may not provide enough current information on aftermarket conditions for our clients.
For the U.S. and Canada, we have similar reports that are updated annually. We also have a monthly report, DataPulse Plus, that provides our customers with insights on aftermarket activity. Like DataPulse Plus, the Mexico Heavy Duty Aftermarket Pulse will provide readers with insights into aftermarket activity, based on quarterly feedback from truck dealers and independent parts suppliers, with the potential of adding fleets in the future.
Paralleling topics in our DataPulse Plus report, on a quarterly basis, we will examine:
Dealers’ Parts Sales: year-over-year, month-over-month, year to date and 2-3 month outlook
Dealers’ Service Labor Sales: year-over-year, month-over-month, year to date and 2-3 month outlook
Dealers’ Inventory Levels: year-over-year, month-over-month and 2-3 month outlook
Independent Garages/HDDs’ Parts Sales: year-over-year, month-over-month, year to date and 2-3 month outlook
Independent Garages/HDDs’ Service Labor Sales: year-over-year, month-over-month, year to date and 2-3 month outlook
Independent Garages/HDDs’ Inventory Levels: year-over-year, month-over-month and 2-3 month outlook
This report is designed for those with an interest in the heavy duty aftermarket in Mexico, but not the need for the detail (or the associated cost) provided in MacKay & Company's DataMac Truck & Bus Mexico report.
Our current schedule is to have the first report completed in the second quarter of 2025. This will be dependent on our ability to recruit enough survey respondents by channel. The report can be purchased with an annual subscription (4 reports). Discounts will be provided to DataMac Truck & Bus Mexico 2023 subscribers.
