Field Research is Currently Underway!
We have launched both the Operator and the Distribution channel surveys! With several new topics added this year, we are excited to closely examine fleets and distribution channels latest e-commerce parts purchasing activities.
If you are looking to better understand fleets’ online purchasing patterns, this is the report for you. We are diving into:
How much is purchased through online channels?
What parts are most frequently purchased online?
Why are fleets not purchasing parts online?
What sites are used to research parts?
Potential use of guest account, no login or registration required?
What website attributes are most important?
AND MORE!
Our 2024 Study marks the 4th extensive review of the e-commerce purchasing patterns for medium and heavy duty fleets. In 2021, 11% of parts purchasing was conducted through an online channel. Has this grown over the past several years as predicted or are fleets charting a different course? Convenience has been a driving force behind use of e-commerce platforms; is this continuing or is more in-person contact required?
We would be happy to further this conversation and share more details about our latest Study. For more information, please contact John Blodgett or Travis Kokenes or call 630-916-6110.

Same Quality Report, New Country
DataPulse Plus Mexico
We are considering a new report, actually the same informative, insightful report but with focus on a different country. We are gauging our clients’ interest in a report detailing all of the topics highlighted in our DataPulse Plus monthly report for the Mexican commercial vehicle market.
We would survey dealers and distributors in Mexico on key market topics: parts sales, inventory, service shop sales, hiring and parts shortages. Our survey to fleets will address miles driven, parts availability and hiring.
This would be a quarterly report versus a monthly report, but would provide timely and relative aftermarket data on three of the most important aftermarket parts channels.
Please reach out to John Blodgett with questions you may have and to express your interest.
2024 DataMac Truck U.S. and Canada Reports are Available
MacKay & Company’s 2024 DataMac Truck U.S. and Canada Commercial Vehicle Operator Reports have been released. In addition to the physical reports, all of the detail on our nearly 900 aftermarket parts are included in our online application. Subscribers have access to this online tool and can “slice and dice” the data to best meet your aftermarket parts needs.
In total, the 2024 U.S. medium and heavy duty truck aftermarket demand grew 4.0% compared to 2023 and equates to $51.1 Billion with over half of the growth attributed to price inflation. Canada, similar to the U.S., has experienced the impact of price increases over the past year. Growth in Canada totals $6.3 Billion (in Canadian dollars), increasing 1.5% over the past year. As you can see, without price, the Canadian aftermarket would not be positive.
Please reach out to John Blodgett for more information on DataMac Truck U.S. and Canada.
Tire Operator Report
Profiling the aftermarket for commercial tires by type (new and retread), position (steer, drive and trailer) and design (bias and radial), our 2024 Class 6-8 commercial truck and trailer provides a comprehensive look at the medium and heavy duty tire aftermarket.
The 2024 forecast annual replacement tire demand increases 1.8% to 37.4 million tires. We estimate replacement tire demand using total vehicle operating population and fleets’ survey input on average annual miles, replacement mileages and utilization. This year, tire demand increases are driven primarily by increasing vehicle populations.
Most fleets purchase tires through local tire dealers, consistently averaging about 70% market share. The next most common channel is through the tire manufacturer, both coming through the dealer and direct ship.
DataMac Tire also profiles other key categories including new and retread tire brand preference, fleet size, vocation, distribution channels, points of service, tire size and purchase rationale.
